Faculty Resources for Online Learning
Training is mandatory for Richland faculty using Canvas with their courses. The training is online in Canvas and completely self-paced. Included with the training is a sandbox course in Canvas where faculty can practice the skills they are learning in the training course and build an actual course they can use in Canvas.
To complete Canvas training faculty need to: (1) work through all content in the Training Course in Canvas, (2) build a completely developed course in their Canvas Sandbox, and (3) have their Sandbox course reviewed by Online Learning to make sure the technology was used appropriately. If faculty have questions or would like face-to-face assistance while going through the training they can contact Kona (kona@richland.edu) or Liz (ejackson@richland.edu).

"Making the Virtual Classroom a Reality" (MVCR) Courses
The Illinois Online Network (ION) offers a number of online courses including “Online Learning: An Overview,” "Technology Tools for Online Learning," "Student Assessment in Online Courses," "Instructional Design for Online Course Development," and "Encouraging Communication in Online Courses" among others. Faculty may take a series of these courses to earn their Master Online Teacher (MOT) certificate. Each class requires approximately 8-10 hours of work per week, but the time is well worth it.
