Katherine Ann "Kitty" Lindsay (1946-1992)

Photo of Kitty LindsayKatherine Ann (Kitty) Lindsay was born in Decatur, IL, on April 18, 1946, the daughter of Merrill and Margery (Sis) Lindsay. She graduated from MacArthur High School and Millikin University, and then earned a Master's Degree from the University of Illinois. She began working in the Decatur Public Schools in 1969 as a teacher at Parsons Elementary School. She served as President of the Mental Health Association of Macon County in 1972. In 1974, she was named "Outstanding Young Educator" by the Decatur Jaycees. She was listed in Outstanding Young Women in America in 1974, and again in 1978, and was named "Young Alumnus of the Year" by Millikin University. In 1976, she became Principal of Pershing Elementary School, and Principal of South Shores Elementary School in 1982. She received numerous honors for her work, including being named "Administrator of the Year" for 1983 by Decatur School District 61 and "Woman of Excellence" in 1992.

Kitty was a frequent contributor to the "Prairie Talk" column in the Decatur Herald & Review and continued to serve on numerous community boards until her death on November 16, 1992.

The Richland Community College Foundation Board remembers well, and is especially grateful to, Kitty for her three years of great service to the Foundation Board. The Kitty Lindsay Learning Resources Center will serve to always remind us of her life.
